PlayStation 3 Web Browser Tips

The web browser that Sony implemented into their new next gen PS3 console was a great idea as it gives your console more functionality. There are also a lot of concerns from people as to its security and to its security for children. It can also be a pain as it can take a while to load up pages or you might find that your PlayStation will freeze from time to time due to using it. I have a list of tips below which might resolve these problems and help you with your browsing.

When you open your browser on the Ps3 it will load up the PlayStation home page. The triangle button is the key to your browsing as it holds all your options within browsing. You can add bookmarks to your favourite sites for handier browsing and page opening, simply just press the start button and type in the site's URL and the site you want to visit will be displayed. Press the triangle button and select the bookmarks option, then select my bookmarks and then select add to bookmarks. There is a quicker option to bookmark though, once your page opens press the select button and your bookmarks will open, then just add to bookmarks, simple.

You may find that your PS3 freezes from time to time while web browsing or that it is taking quite a while to load up sites, this tip may resolve that problem. Simply click the triangle button and select the tools option. Once you have done that go down and delete the cookies and delete the cache, this may smooth things out for you.

You may also fear for your child's safety and consoles safety while browsing the web. Sony have provided you with an internet security option. You can get a 90 day free trial of this option and then purchase if you feel necessary. This security is from Trend micro and may stop viruses and bugs from your console, it can also block certain sites from being accessed that you don't want your children accessing. To get your security simply click the triangle button, select browser security and then select Trend micro for PS3. You can then get your 90 day free trial. For this I would recommend reading the terms and conditions and the FAQs to find out if this is suitable for you.

The PS3 web browser also has other great options like a history button so that you can go back to those previous pages of importance with ease. You can also save certain pictures directly to your HDD by selecting the triangle button, then selecting the file option and then clicking the save image option.

I am sure you all will agree that the web browser addition to the PS3 is a great one and I hope these tips will help your future browsing and make it more enjoyable.

Running Linux On The PlayStation 3 Console

One of the many features of the PlayStation 3 is that it's capable of using Linux, which means that owners of the PS3 can customize their system and get lots more out of it. Game consoles tend to be designed in order to prevent foreign systems from running on them, but Sony have gone in total the opposite direction with the PS3, allowing an experienced Linux user to personalize their system. Most of the gaming systems will be intentionally locked so that other systems will be unable to run, so the PlayStation is unconventional in allowing this. The only thing that is not possible with the PS3 is to run accelerated graphics.

The PlayStation 3 isn't the first gaming system to allow Linux. The Xbox also utilizes this feature, but the PS3 differs in several ways. To start with, the PS3 is more powerful. In addition, the Xbox requires an additional chip to run Linux, whereas the PS3 is capable of running it without. In fact, it's completely free to run Linux on the PlayStation 3.

Here are some options that you have with the Linux on the PlayStation 3:

With an addition of a keyboard and mouse, the PlayStation 3 can be used like a PC. Not all PC programs are able to adapt to the PS3 environment, as least not yet, but Linux enables you many choices.

Run your own operating system. This is a great advantage to those that would prefer to personalize their system.

Make sure of the Internet. You can search the web on your PS3 with the Firefox internet browser.

Use the office software package. Although, at present it's been reported that Windows doesn't run that well on the PS3. However, in the future, Microsoft may consider creating a version of Windows that can run on the PlayStation 3. There is no official word on this at the moment.

Run various kinds of emulators. This will allow you to play of your favourite games of yesteryear on your brand new PlayStation 3.

Play a variety of media types, such as CD's, DVD's and ROM's. With Linux running, you can listen to music or watch movies on your PS3

Connect to share networks. This will enable you to save and retrieve file on a outside server, meaning a saving in memory.

There is one slight problem with getting Linux on your PlayStation 3 console though, and that is because it's difficult to install and hard to use. At this moment, it's pretty much restricted to the programmers and hobbyists. In the future, hopefully, there will be a more user friendly interface to accompany Linux on the games console. Since PS3 emerged, most programmers like to use Fedora Core to run Linux on their PS3's, but there is now a new system in town called Yellow Dog, which is intended to be used specifically on the PS3. Yellow Dog is being highly rated and gaining exposure.

Still, the best thing about Linux is that it's totally free. All you need is a PlayStation 3, the necessary cable, a USB keyboard and mouse, a USB flash drive and various other accessories to make the installation run smoother... ok, so if you don't already have all that stuff, its not really free, but Linux itself certainly is! It may not be that tough to install, if you've used Linux before. There is a wide choice of websites out there that provide tips on installation, and most seem to recommend Yellow Dog. You will also discover many great ideas on how to run Linux in the gaming forums.

How to Maximize the Usage of PlayStation 3 Console

PlayStation 3 console is the latest generation of PlayStation series that launched by Sony Entertainment. You know, PlayStation 3 has been changed a lot compare to PlayStation 1 and PlayStation 2. It is integrated with build in hard disk that allow you to save the game data, music files, photo files into the hard disk.

It is also the only game console that able to act as Blu-Ray disc player in the market now. What is a Blu-Ray Disc player? It is similar to the DVD players that most of us know, just that it use to run Blu-Ray disc.

A piece of Blu-Ray disc can save data up to 54 Gigs whereby normal double layer DVD disc can only save data up to 9 Gigs.

In shorts, by having more storage space in the Blu-Ray disc, it can carry 6 times more data than the DVD we use now; which able to contribute high definition effects to the TV pictures that shown on the screen.

You can use the PlayStation 3 console to watch HD movies if you want to

Before that, you need to have a set of HDTV (either plasma TV or LCD flat screen TV will do, just that LCD is better for your health since it do not spread any radiation effects )and HDMI Cable (High Definition Multimedia Interface) to connect from your PlayStation 3 to your High Definition TV in order to have these HD effects.

Let me explain in a bit more here

HD means "high definition". You know, our TV screen picture is build up by lot of small pixels just like our PC screen. If the TV screen picture is build up by more pixels, the picture will become more clear and sharp; and more pixels will required more storage space that pictures produce by Blu-Ray Disc will be much higher quality compare to DVD disc, because it has more storage space to carry more pixels.

HDTV able to shown all the small pixels in the TV screen and you need HDMI cable to transmit large volume of pixels from your Playstation 3 to your HDTV to give you HD effects. Are you getting more clear now?

You might also want to increase your movie or gaming experience by attached a home theater system to your HDTV to enhance the audio effects which can up to 7.1 channels.

You shall buy Pioneer brands seem they are so popular in the market for the high quality sound that they are able to produce.

Which model you shall buy? Of course, higher price contribute higher sound quality. You just need to justify between quality and budget by yourself

Beside Blu-Ray disc player, you can use some model of the PlayStation 3 to play majority of the PlayStation 1 and PlayStation 2 games.

Why I say some model? There are 4 models of PlayStation 3 which can commonly get in the market :-

However, it is integrate with Emotion Engine that allow you to play majority of the PlayStation 1 and PlayStation 2 games.

It is better to get 60GB console if this is your first PlayStation console since there are also quite a few of nice PS1 and PS2 games that worth to play.

Besides, it allow you to play online PlayStation games. In fact, the major selling point of PlayStation 3 games are online games that allow you to battle with other hardcore gamers from worldwide.

You will not getting bored with a single game since your opponent have turn into smart humans; and game developers are happy as well since they just need to maintain their game server and no need to worry the pirated copy of the PS3 games to exist.
